CD Sleeve notes:
Here in the town of Harwich we are proud of our part in the long maritime history of the UK. It is this important place in history which led to the beginnings of what is now the Premier Shanty Festival in Britain. Over the festival weekend we celebrate not just our musical heritage with shanties, sea songs and music throughout the whole town, but also delve into our maritime past with walks, talks, presentations, crafts and other projects. There are a range of fascinating workshops to attend as well as barge trips, shanty trains, concerts, free entertainment, re-enactment, pirates and street theatre. But at the heart of the festival is out commitment to preserving and promoting the tradition of the sea shanty and its place in British traditions. As the Festival grows in size we also endeavour to preserve an atmosphere akin to a small friendly gathering inside a cozy pub. We hope that all our visitors, artists, volunteers, sponsors and supporters, venues, local residents and businesses will enjoy the festival, benefit from the festival and feel welcome in the town.
One of the Festival Traditions which we continue this year, is the Festival CD and once again our visiting artists have done us proud with a varied selection of excellent tracks, donated towards this virtual CD. Our thanks go to them for their support.
